ONLINE REHAB: MULTIPLE OPTIONS TO SERVE YOU BETTER
It almost seems like we’re in a new normal now. We go grocery shopping with masks on, we work from home, and we enjoy our favorite restaurants from take out boxes. And the truth is we really have no idea when this will end nor do we know exactly how we will return to what we consider normal.
But life has to go on somehow, right? We still need to eat, learn, and exercise. And as we struggle to adjust to new work situations, adapt to stressful circumstances, and try to figure out common core math while juggling Zoom meetings we realize that we need to find a way to take care of ourselves in addition to those around us (or who are allowed to be around us for the time being). Maybe in all of the chaos we find ourselves feeling some gradual onset of low back pain, or in our makeshift garage workouts we develop some knee pain or rediscover some shoulder pain. Or for some of us who have had the great misfortune of bad timing we had a knee or shoulder surgery performed just before quarantine even started and now we are at a loss for how to rehab properly without access to a physical therapy office.
Just like not all injuries are the same, not all of our current circumstances lend themselves to being able to regularly meet virtually with a physical therapist. Because we know that everyone’s situations are different we have two different virtual recovery options to suit your individual needs.
Telehealth Physical Therapy
This option is treated in the same fashion as our in-clinic visits. Patients will have virtual appointments (evaluations and follow-ups) conducted via Zoom with an exercise based plan of care delivered on a regular basis according to appointment scheduling. Appointments are purchased in packages and can be used interchangeably between remote and in-person appointments.
This option is ideal for those who are in more acute situations that evolve on a more regular basis. Examples would be postoperative situations (ACL, total joint replacements, etc) or acute onset of musculoskeletal pain that is significantly limiting in daily or intended function. Telehealth physical therapy is also a good option for people who have little exercise experience or have trouble establishing an exercise routine or habit as the increased frequency of visits can be helpful for accountability as well as answering any questions that come to mind.
Please note that our telehealth physical therapy option is only available for Oregon residents.
Remote Rehab Consulting
This option is treated more along the lines of a consultant to client relationship. Instead of regular appointments, clients are scheduled short check-ins at biweekly intervals after the initial consultation. Rather than purchasing sessions in packages, remote rehab consulting clients pay a monthly consulting fee that also gives them access to an exercise based treatment program based on their needs but are encouraged to be more detailed in their feedback to the therapist they are working with as the check-ins included with remote rehab consulting sometimes do not allow for all questions to be answered based on time.
This option is perfect for the person who has more experience with exercise programs and does not need the regularity of scheduled visits in order to convey their progress as well as the accountability to stay on track with exercise programming.
Remote rehab consulting is also a good option for people who are dealing with less acute aches and pains that are not as significantly limiting for daily or intended function.
Another advantage of this option is that it is ideal for clients who do not live in Oregon or within reasonable driving distance to one of our clinics in the Portland area.
